Strong onshore flow over coastal areas of Maine and into the Boston area will keep a steady flow of moisture into this region and this should lift into the eastern provinces of Canada by Monday night. A late season snowfall is expected over West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and parts of upstate New York. Given that many trees now have foliage, the accumulation of heavy wet snow could cause branches to break and result in possible power disruptions.
The highest elevations in these states may see in excess of eight inches of snow. Hot weather will continue over parts of the Desert Southwest and into the Great Basin as a strong upper level ridge remains established over this region. Temperatures in some areas exceeded 100 degrees on Sunday and this may be the case again for Monday in southern Arizona and into adjacent areas of California.
