National weather outlook for 4th of July holiday

A relentless ridge of high pressure will persist over the central U.S., continuing the hot and humid conditions across the central and southern states. A huge area of Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories have been issued across the Midwest, where the combination of high temperatures and dewpoints will bring heat index values into triple digits and make for dangerous conditions. As the ridge expands eastward over the next few days, much of the eastern third of the country will see a resurgence of the heat experienced last weekend.

A cold front moving along the top of the ridge will continue to trigger thunderstorms as it sweeps through the Northeast on Wednesday. To the south of the front, afternoon showers and thunderstorms will remain in the forecast across a very juicy warm sector stretching from the Southeast to the Ohio Valley. A second cold front will push across the Northern Plains on Wednesday, bringing showers and thunderstorms.
