The Washington Post, one of the nation’s most reputable news sources, released new polling data, which shows that the majority of Americans (nearly 75 percent) agree with the concept of photo identification for the purposes of voting. Further, more than half those polled also articulated that voter fraud was a “major problem” in presidential elections.
“Despite the controversy and hysteria that has been created about Voter ID legislation by the Democrats, it is clear that Americans continue to support the need for photo identification in order to vote, as evidenced again by today’s new Washington Post poll,” said Rob Gleason, Chairman of the Republican Party of Pennsylvania. “There is strong support – across voters in both parties – for this type of legislation and there is national concern for voter fraud, despite protests from Democrats that it either doesn’t exist or occurs too infrequently to matter. Clearly, it matters to voters whether Democrats want to admit it or not.”
Chairman Gleason further states, “The fear-mongering that has occurred, especially in our Commonwealth by partisan critics of this law is despicable. To perpetuate lies about Voter ID so as to scare our elderly, our young, minorities and women into believing they will be unable to vote on November 6 is simply wrong. But what it demonstrates even more clearly is how woefully out of touch Democrats are on this issue – and every other issue facing Pennsylvanians today. As the Post’s poll shows, Americans support these laws because they genuinely care about preserving the integrity of our elections. And it is imperative that we ensure that the will of the people is heard, especially with so much at stake for Americans in this upcoming election.”
“All of this time spent trying to convince Pennsylvanians that the Commonwealth is working to disenfranchise voters is simply a way for President Obama and his surrogates to divert attention from the truth – this country’s economy is failing, Americans are worse off in 2012 than in 2008 and the only real vision for America reclaiming its rightful place as the world’s leader is being articulated by the Romney/Ryan ticket. Voter ID is just an attempt to distract from the truth with lies and the Post poll is a clear indicator that the Democrats are not connected with what Americans think, feel and believe.”

Photo IDs for Non-Citizen and Senior Voters
We should offer potential voters more assistance in obtaining ID – if they do not currently have one – for themselves and their children. It is an undisputable it fact that many, many poor, minorities (and also ‘senior’ not-yet-citizens) do not have; and therefore cannot produce even a basic photo ID, which is a very bad thing indeed.
I believe that – as a society – we are (and should) also be very concerned about as well as continue to possibly come to offer some more assistance to just about ‘anyone’ out there who does not actually have either the knowledge, financial means or the wherewithal to be able to apply for, keep and carry around a basic photo ID in the first place.
One cannot even accomplish even very basic undertakings in our modern society; such as enter a bank and open an account or cash a check, apply for a lease, register your children for school, apply for needed senior-related financial and medical government benefits and literally dozens of other basic things in the modern world without being able to produce a current (as well a legitimate) photo ID.
Not having an ID can severely jeopardize a person’s ability to do many of these things – not to mention not being able to cast a ballot in states that require a citizen produce one beforehand. Therefore I think it would also be most prudent to place more of the emphasis on offering more assistance to these fine folks; as well as addressing their voting requirements.
Additionally, I entirely agree that these laws are being enacted by those who have absolutely no concern whatsoever as to why the people have no ID at all, and that they are being entirely disingenuous, regarding the ‘proven to be fantasy’ claims of even the remote possibility these laughable proclamations regarding any rampant ‘multiple voter’ fraud. These people are nearly all likely; not showing their ID because they most often do not HAVE one available – not because of ‘the refusal to offer’ one – as is now required at the voting booth in a growing number of municipalities nationwide.
