Shooting at Sikh temple leaves 7 dead

A Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, near Milwaukee, became a tragic scene when a gunman shot what early reports said were up to 30 individuals, killing at least seven on Sunday.

Multiple calls came into the 911 dispatch from the temple around 10:25 a.m. A police officer was shot several times and is currently at Froedtert Hospital. His condition was not known at the time of publishing this story.

The suspected gunman is dead.

Initial reports indicated there was a hostage situation, however, authorities did not confirm this.

The president of the temple, Satwant Kaleka, happened to be one of the victims.

Witnesses said that when the shooting occurred there were several women and children at the 500-member temple. Some worshipers said they hid in closets as gun shots fired throughout the temple.

Sikhism claims around 27-million adherents throughout the world.
