New Book, ‘Is College Worth It?’

is-college-worth-itLATROBE, PA – Saint Vincent College is identified as one of 43 “Schools Worth Attending” and “offers a rigorous liberal arts curriculum, with particularly strong programs in politics and theology” in a new book by former U.S. Secretary of Education William J. Bennett.

Saint Vincent, one of eight private schools listed, is described as “set in one of the most scenic areas of Pennsylvania.” It is noted that Saint Vincent “offers generous scholarships for undergraduates: a 3.0 grade point average and 1000+ on the SAT will qualify you for $15,000 per year.”

13th annual Pitt-Greensburg Writer’s Festival

GREENSBURG, PA — The Pitt-Greensburg Writer’s Festival will celebrate its 13th year Monday, April 8, through Thursday, April 11. All readings and presentations begin at 7 p.m. and are free and open to the public. Books will be available for sale and signing throughout the festival, and a reception follows each event. This year’s festival features award-winning writers, poets, editors and a filmmaker, as well as student readings and workshops.

Annual book sale at Caldwell Memorial Library

Caldwell Memorial Library is holding its annual book sale which will offer books of all kinds as well as bargains and surprises for everyone. Gift basket raffles will be available with a drawing on Thursday, June 21.

The library is also is seeking book donations for the sale. Book donations will be accepted during regular library hours. The library is currently not accepting magazines, textbooks or encyclopedias.

Sunbury Press Bestseller List – “The Final Charge” keeps the pace!

“The Final Charge”, a recently released Civil War novel by Charles K. Godfrey about three re-enactor friends who find themselves participating in the real Pickett’s Charge in 1863, grabbed the top spot overall. Carolyn Perry’s gripping Hurricane Katrina memoir “For Better, For Worse: Patient in the Maelstrom” led all eBooks for the month and finished second overall. Fiction books grabbed seven of the top ten spots overall and eight of the top ten eBooks.
